Manipal University gets greener in UI global ranking
Manipal University has improved its position in the UI Green Metric World University ranking from the 35th position last year to 27th in the latest ranking released on January 17, 2014 in the suburban category while retaining its top position in the country, yet again.
Many more universities took part in the ranking survey this year. With 301 universities from 61 countries, taking part in the competition was tougher. Last year 215 universities from 49 countries had taken part. University of California (USA) was ranked first, followed by University of Bath (UK) in the second position, Universiti Putra (Malaysia) and Bangor University (UK) were in the third and fourth positions. Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain) was fifth. Apart from universities from the USA, Japan, UK and other European countries, universities from Slovenia, Russia, Taiwan, Turkey Iran, Jordan, Panama, Pakistan and several other countries took part for the first time.
The ranking is done by Universitas Indonesia (UI) which compares the efforts of universities towards campus sustainability and environment friendly management. The results are computed from information provided by universities online and Manipal University participated in the Suburban Category for the second year. The information is organized under six (6) main categories. These categories and their weightings are: Setting and Infrastructure (15%), Energy and Climate Change (21%), Waste management (18%), Water usage (10%), Transportation (18%), and Education (18%).
