Manipal Marathons to Fight Strokes

The motive of Manipal University to spread awareness about strokes attracted more than 6000 runners inclusive of faculty, school children and the general public in and around Manipal to participate in Manipal Marathon on March 5th of 2017.

Manipal Marathon, a brainchild of Dr. Girish Menon, a neurosurgeon at Kasturba Medical College (KMC), comprised of the 21.1 km half-marathon, 10 km run, and fun races of 5km and 3 km. The 3km segment included a separate run for children, while the 10km, 5km and 3km segments included different races for senior citizens, corporates, and the open category. The half-marathon saw all eligible age groups, greater than 18 years of age to compete in a single run.

People though tired after the run assembled at KMC greens and brought a festive situation.   Runners received a session of physiotherapy from volunteers of the School of Allied Health Sciences.  Various institutions like KMC, Dental Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Nursing College, of Manipal University, educated the people on various lifestyle-related diseases.

Marathon was flagged off by Dr. H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, Manipal University and the gamut of important persons of Manipal were present with him on the dais.
